What is Vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty is an aesthetic restorative gynecology procedure used for vaginal rejuvenation and tightening. The process of Vaginoplasty is a recommended cosmetic surgery procedure designed especially for women who complain about vaginal laxity resulting from childbirth due to stretching of tissues and separation of muscles from the skin. Sometimes lack of vaginal tone is to the extent that many women complain about falling of tampons. Aesthetic vaginal abnormalities may also contribute to ineffective sexual function and pleasure. Vaginoplasty is good news for women with lower self-confidence with an uncomfortably loose vagina.

The process is also known as Aesthetic Vaginal Surgery or Designer Vagina.

Procedure of Vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty involves the extra mucosal skin removal from the backside of the vagina and getting the separated muscles together. If excess external skin is there, it can also be removed to give a more aesthetic and juvenile appearance. The process starts by giving local or general anesthesia by keeping in view the patient’s needs and other health conditions. The tightening amount is determined by initial consultation between the patient and our board-certified plastic surgeons. In the Vaginoplasty procedure, a pie-shaped wedge is used to mark the extra skin inside the vagina.  Beneath the skin, the tissues are sutured tightly to reduce vaginal laxity. The process is designed to tighten the vaginal canal. Once it is pulled, the mucosal skin is also sutured close. The external vaginal skin is removed by giving a more aesthetic appearance and desired outcomes.

Who is a good candidate for Vaginoplasty?

  • Patients with multiple vaginal deliveries, lose vaginal muscle tone, and aging may fulfill the candidacy criteria for Vaginoplasty. Many women experience embarrassment, discomfort, and loss of sensitivity during sexual intercourse, which may lead to dissatisfaction for the woman and the partner.  If you are seriously bothered by the conditions, then you must undergo Vaginoplasty.
  • The patient must have done completing her family-building process. Giving childbirth after the Vaginoplasty may affect the desired outcomes.
  • A patient must have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the process.
  • The patient must have a detailed discussion about the risks and complications associated with the process.
  • The patient must be good in health with no underlying diseases.
  • Patients are encouraged to quit smoking one or two weeks before and after the surgery, as smoking may considerably increase the complication during the healing process.

Risks and complications

Risks and complications associated with Vaginoplasty are infrequent. The most common complications may be as follow;

  • Infection
  • Pain
  • Bleeding

Risks and complications associated with Vaginoplasty are the same as with any other plastic surgery procedure. Infection and pain can be relieved by giving antibiotics and pain-relieving medications. Patients are also advised not to take aspirin or other blood-thinning agents to help in bleeding disorders after the surgical process.

Downtime of Vaginoplasty?

The downtime of Vaginoplasty is two to three weeks. The patient may feel deep pain a few days after the surgery, and it is advised to not have intercourse and tampon use eight weeks after the surgery.

Patients are always encouraged to come to the hospital for complications and queries and schedule a surgical follow-up examination.
