Am I a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Ideal candidates include women who have excess fat and skin around their abdomen as a result of pregnancy and childbirth, and men and women who have a flabby belly after weight loss or from the natural effects of aging. Candidates should also be individuals who are in good general health, do not smoke, and have maintained a stable weight.
What Are the Benefits of Tummy Tuck Surgery?
Men and women who undergo a tummy tuck will no longer have as much extra skin and fat around their midsection. Instead, their abdomen will be thinner and more defined. With added confidence in your appearance, any worry about showing off your skin at the beach will be gone.

What Are the different Kinds of Tummy Tucks?
At Plus Cosmetic Surgery Center, we offer three different types, or levels, of tummy tuck surgery.
- A partial tummy tuck (mini abdominoplasty) removes excess skin and subcutaneous fat from the lower abdomen.
- A medium tummy tuck helps eliminate the fold in the abdominal area, specifically below the naval; additionally, this procedure helps restore abdominal proportions with some moderate abnormalities.
- A full tummy tuck (total abdominoplasty) removes significant amounts of subcutaneous fat in the abdomen and fully corrects the proportions of the abdomen.
What Is a Tummy Tuck?
At your consultation, you and your cosmetic surgeon will discuss which type of tummy tuck surgery is right for you.
During the actual surgery, you will be sedated with general anesthesia so that you will not feel any pain. A horizontal incision is then made in the abdomen, stretching from hip to hip and sitting just above the pubic region.
Excess fat and skin is removed, and the connective tissue (fascia) above the abdominal muscles is tightened. The abdominal skin is then repositioned, making sure that the belly button is in its correct position. The incisions are then closed with stitches.
Though there will be a scar, it will not be prominent, as it will run along the natural “bikini line” crease of your body.
Can I Combine a Tummy Tuck With Any Other Procedures?
Absolutely. Tummy tuck surgery is often combined with other procedures, such as liposuction, breast augmentation surgery, breast lift surgery, or sometimes breast reduction surgery. These procedures may all be incorporated into a Mommy Makeover.
One of the benefits of combining procedures is that there is less overall recovery time, since you will be recovering from the procedures at the same time.
What Is Recovery From Tummy Tuck Surgery Like?
Tummy tuck recovery time varies with each patient and the type and extent of the surgery performed; however, most people can return to their normal activities, including exercise, after six to eight weeks.
For the first several weeks after your procedure, you should rest as much as possible and make sure not to make any sharp or quick bends at your waist. During this time, a compression garment may be worn to minimize swelling and speed the healing process.
What Results Can I Expect With Tummy Tuck Surgery?
After undergoing a tummy tuck, you will have a flatter, more defined midsection. The stubborn fat and skin around the abdomen will be gone, and the abdominal wall will be tightened.
It is important to note that tummy tuck surgery is not designed for weight loss, but with a proper diet and exercise routine, your results can be long lasting.
