Otoplasty in Miami, FL
Does the size, shape, or projection of your ears bother you?
Many men and women look in the mirror and feel embarrassed by the appearance of their ears. While the rest of their face may be beautiful and perfectly proportioned, they can look like a sideshow amusement if their ears stick out too far from their head.
Whether you were teased growing up or you are just tired of feeling self-conscious about the projection of your ears, otoplasty (ear pinning) is a cosmetic ear surgery that can help your ears rest against your head in a better and more aesthetic position.Book Consultation
Am I a Candidate for Ear Pinning?
If you are unhappy with the way your ears stick out from the rest of your face (whether just one ear or both), then otoplasty surgery may be the answer that you’ve been searching for. Candidates should be non-smoking men and women who are in good general health and have realistic expectations about their results.
Otoplasty can be performed on both children and adults alike. Candidates must have fully developed ears, which commonly occurs around the ages of four to six.
During your consultation at Plus Cosmetic Surgery Center, one of our skilled cosmetic surgeons will evaluate your ears to make sure that ear surgery is the right procedure for you.

How Is Otoplasty (Ear Pinning) Performed?
Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure usually conducted under local anesthesia; however, general anesthesia is sometimes used, depending on different factors, including the extent of the corrective surgery and whether or not your otoplasty is being combined with any other procedures. Some children do better when ear pinning surgery is performed under general anesthesia, as this allows them to be completely asleep.
Once the anesthesia has been administered, your surgeon will make small incisions in the back of your ear(s). Your surgeon will then fold the ear cartilage into a more aesthetic position and secure the cartilage in place, using internal stitches. After this is done, your surgeon will close the incision(s) with sutures.
It usually takes about two hours to complete ear pinning surgery.
What Procedures Can Be Combined With Otoplasty Surgery?
Many patients choose to combine their otoplasty with other cosmetic facial procedures, such as:
Besides an even more dynamic adjustment to your face, one of the benefits of combining facial procedures is that it cuts down on overall cost as well as overall recovery time.
What Is Otoplasty Recovery Like?
After your otoplasty procedure, your ears will be covered with bandages to help speed up the recovery process. You will have some swelling and bruising, but these won’t be noticeable because of the bandages. There will be some itching and discomfort, though medication can be taken for any pain. After a few days, the bandages will be removed, and at this point, you can begin getting back to normal life; however, you should refrain from any strenuous activities until your surgeon clears you, which usually takes about six weeks.
It is important that you be gentle and careful with your ears as they heal. This means wearing shirts that do not go over the head and sleeping on your back.
What Results Can I Expect From the Procedure?
Your results will be apparent as soon as your bandages are removed. You will have ears that no longer stick out from the sides of your head. Instead, your ears will look contoured to your face. And, because of the location of the incisions (behind your ears), any scars from your ear surgery will be hidden from sight.
No longer will you feel the need to cover up your ears with hats or other head coverings. Now, you’ll be able to smile at your reflection in the mirror and walk out in public with a brand new confidence in the way you look.
