Liposuction in Miami, FL

Do you have stubborn fat that just won’t go away?

Men and women alike desire a trimmed and contoured appearance. This starts with a healthy lifestyle — a balanced diet and regular exercise — unfortunately, this isn’t always enough to rid the body of stubborn and unresponsive pockets of subcutaneous fat.

If you are frustrated with stubborn fat pockets, there may be a simple solution. Liposuction reduces these pockets of fat, giving you the toned physique you so desperately want. And the best part is that it’s safe and minimally invasive, with long-lasting results.

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

Ideal candidates for liposuction surgery are non-smoking men and women in good general health, have realistic expectations for their results, and have stubborn fat that just won’t go away, no matter how much they diet and exercise.

It is important to note that liposuction is a body sculpting procedure, not a weight-loss procedure. While there may be some weight loss with the removal of the fat, candidates should be at or near their ideal weight before their procedure.

During your consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will conduct an in-depth evaluation to determine your candidacy. This is a valuable opportunity to develop a treatment plan that best suits your needs.

How Is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure in which fat is removed from the body using a suction device. There are different types of liposuction techniques that your cosmetic surgeon may use. These include:

Tumescent liposuction: your cosmetic surgeon injects an anesthetic “tumescent” solution into the problem area. This solution causes the fatty area to swell. Your surgeon then uses a cannula (a small tube attached to the liposuction device) to extract the fat. This procedure is usually performed with local anesthesia.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction: your cosmetic surgeon uses ultrasound energy to break up the fatty tissue and loosen it from the body. This allows the fat to be more easily removed with the suction device. Variations of this procedure include VASERlipo®. This procedure is usually performed with local anesthesia.

Laser-assisted liposuction: your cosmetic surgeon uses laser energy to help loosen the fatty tissue from the body to make the extraction of the fat easier. This is known under brand names like SmartLipo® and Slimlipo™. This procedure is usually performed with local anesthesia.

Suction-assisted liposuction: your cosmetic surgeon uses a vacuum-like device to remove the fat. Power-assisted liposuction is similar, but power-assisted liposuction uses a tool to enhance the motion of the cannula that removes the fat. This procedure is usually performed with general anesthesia.

It generally takes two to four hours to complete liposuction surgery; however, this varies depending on the size of the treatment area.

What Procedures Can Be Combined With My Liposuction?

Many cosmetic surgeries use liposuction as part of the procedure, including tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) and Brazilian Butt Lift surgery. Arm lift surgery may also require liposuction.

Additionally, many patients combine their liposuction surgery with other procedures to achieve even more dynamic results. Some of these procedures include:

Breast augmentation surgery

Breast lift surgery

Breast reduction surgery

What Is Liposuction Recovery Like?

After your procedure, you will have some bruising and swelling; however, these should dissipate over the next week. Additionally, you may experience some soreness. Medication can help alleviate any pain, and a compression garment can be worn to help speed recovery. Generally speaking, most patients are able to return to work (as long as it is not physically demanding) after one to two weeks.

Your surgeon will monitor you closely in the weeks following your surgery. Patients need to follow all post-operative instructions to ensure a safe, comfortable, and successful recovery.

What Results Can I Expect From the Procedure?

After the swelling dissipates, your liposuction results will be clearly visible. It may take several months for your final results to be evident, and at that point, you will have a sleeker, more toned appearance that you’ll be excited to show off.

While liposuction results are long lasting, since the removed fat is gone for good, liposuction cannot keep away the normal effects of aging. To prolong your results, it is important to keep a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise.
