Am I a Candidate for Hymenoplasty?
There is never a wrong time to undergo a hymenoplasty procedure. No matter your current age or stage in life, if you feel that the restoration of your hymen is the right decision for you, then it is.
With that being said, some women will be better candidates for the procedure than others. You are an ideal candidate for the hymenoplasty procedure in Miami if:
- You’re a non-smoker
- You’re in good health
- You need proof of an intact hymen for any reason
- You have realistic expectations of the procedure and understand the risks
Hymenoplasties are also performed on women who have had multiple children, as well as women who have experienced significant trauma during childbirth.

How Is the Hymenoplasty Procedure Performed?
Hymenoplasty is typically performed on an outpatient basis and takes approximately one to two hours to complete. The hymenoplasty procedure involves suturing the membranous tissue surrounding the vaginal opening (hymen) in order to restore its integrity.
First of all, our surgeon, Dr. Rita Shats, uses local anesthesia to numb the vaginal area, making the procedure painless.
Hymenoplasty involves taking a small piece of tissue from the vaginal lining and stitching it back together, much like a surgical repair. If the hymen is severely damaged, some additional tissue may be used to reconstruct the hymen and make it more durable.
The level of success of the surgery depends upon how much of the hymen remains, how well healthy tissue has survived, and how much tissue can be used to reconstruct it. In some cases, this type of treatment can be combined with other vaginal plastic surgeries such as vaginoplasty or labiaplasty for the best results.
Our cosmetic surgeons will discuss your specific needs and recommend the best approach for your procedure.
What Is Hymenoplasty Recovery Like?
Following your hymenoplasty, you may experience some discomfort that can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications. Patients can expect some mild soreness after surgery; this should resolve within a week. Stitches may also dissolve naturally or be removed during a follow-up appointment.
Most women take one to two weeks off from work and other activities that require strenuous physical activity. You should also refrain from sexual intercourse, tampon use, and heavy lifting during this time.
What Results Can I Expect From Hymenoplasty?
While results vary from person to person, most patients have a positive experience with this procedure. Most women who have had the procedure report that they are happy with their decision and that the recovery process is well worth it for their results.
