Facelift Surgery in Miami, FL

With age comes wisdom, experience, and, unfortunately, loose and sagging skin. One of the most noticeable areas for this sagging skin is on the lower face, especially the cheeks and neck. This can cause many people to feel self-conscious about their appearance. However, facelift surgery (rhytidectomy) is a way to help restore the facial structure to give a more defined and youthful aesthetic.

Am I a Candidate for Facelift Surgery?

If you’ve noticed signs of aging in your face, such as sagging cheeks, jowls, folds around your nose and mouth, the development of a double chin, or general loose skin on lower portions of your face, then a facelift may be the solution for you.

What Are the Benefits of Facelift Surgery?

There are both physical and mental benefits to facelift surgery. The loose and sagging skin and tissues on your cheeks, jawline, and neck will be tightened, and lost facial volume can be restored (through dermal fillers or fat grafting).

Additionally, wrinkles that have developed on the lower portions of your face, whether from age, smoking, sun exposure, or normal life, will be smoothed. With this procedure, your face should look healthier than it has in years.

Along with a more youthful appearance, you will likely find yourself having more confidence so that you can walk out in public feeling a sense of pride in the way you look.

How Is Facelift Surgery Performed?

At Plus Cosmetic Surgery, we offer both traditional and mini facelift surgery. The appropriate technique depends on the amount of correction and will be determined during your consultation with one of our skilled cosmetic surgeons.

SMAS Facelift (Traditional Facelift)

The SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) is a layer of deep tissue in the facial skin that commonly sags over time. During a SMAS facelift, this layer of tissue is tightened before the skin is lifted and trimmed.

Patients are usually given intravenous (IV) and local or general anesthesia. An incision is made at your temple that extends down the ear, moving behind the ears. The fat and tissue in your face and neck are then repositioned and secured, and excess skin is removed. The skin will then be redraped over your face, and all incisions will be closed with sutures.

This procedure usually takes several hours to perform, and most scarring is covered in the hairline and natural creases of your skin. These scars are usually minimal and will fade with time.

Mini Facelift

For patients with minimal sagging skin in the face, a mini facelift is a great option. This procedure addresses the lower portions of the face, whereas a traditional facelift also focuses on the midface.

A mini facelift procedure requires smaller incisions than other facelifts, which means less surgical time and scarring. While this is a less invasive procedure, a mini facelift still addresses the presence of jowls and loose skin on the neck to create a more defined jawline.

Can I Combine a Facelift With Any Other Procedures?

Yes. Many patients choose to combine a facelift with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or neck lift surgery to address all areas of the face and maintain facial harmony.

One of the benefits of combining a facelift with other procedures is that there is less total recovery time, since you will be recovering from different procedures at the same time.

What Is Recovery From Facelift Surgery Like?

The standard recovery time for patients after a traditional facelift is two to four weeks. During this postsurgical period, you will have bruising, swelling, and some soreness; however, medication can be prescribed for any pain. Additionally, you will be given a cream for the incisions to make sure they heal as cleanly as possible.

For the first two weeks after surgery, you should refrain from exercise and any other strenuous activity, but by the third week after your facelift, you should begin to feel like your old self…but look much younger.

The recovery time for a mini facelift is usually half the time of a full facelift, though the postsurgical care will still be the same.

What Results Can I Expect With Facelift Surgery?

After your facelift, your face will have a more youthful appearance. Loose and sagging skin will now be lifted and contoured, and your neck and jawline will be defined. With a proper diet and skincare routine, you can expect your results to last up to ten years.

How Much Is a Facelift?

The specific price of facelift surgery will vary, depending on numerous factors, including whether you have a full or mini facelift done. However, during your consultation at Plus Cosmetic Surgery Center, you will be given the cost of the procedure.
